The Hamswell valley is on the Western edge of Cold Ashton parish and on the old Gloucestershire/Somerset County boundary. It is at the head of the Swainswick valley, running up from East of Bath to the North. The line of beech trees with the gap stands to the North above the valley and marks the Southern end of the Cotswold Edge. Lilliput Farm is in Lower Hamswell, reached from a cross-roads at the bottom of Freezing Hill, which connects the Lansdown road from Bath to Wick, and the A 420 Bristol to Chippenham road, at the top of Tog Hill. This was the mediaeval London-Bristol road, through Marshfield.
From Bath, go up over Lansdown past the racecourse. Turn Right as the road curves round and descends after the Monument. Turn Right to Lower Hamswell at the cross-roads at the bottom of the hill. Proceed for half a mile to Lilliput Farm, at the end of the long red brick barn on the right hand side of the road.
From Marshfield, take the A 420 West, cross the A46 at the Cold Ashton roundabout and continue West for 1 mile, turning Left to Hamswell at the top of Tog Hill. Continue along Freezing Hill; after half a mile the road curves Left and goes steeply downhill. At the cross roads at the bottom, turn left into Lower Hamswell.
From Bristol, take the A 420 towards Chippenham, through Wick and up Tog Hill, turning Right at the crest. Continue along Freezing Hill; after half a mile the road curves Left and goes steeply downhill. At the cross roads at the bottom, turn left into Lower Hamswell.
From the A 46, go to the Cold Ashton roundabout and turn West on the A 420 towards Bristol. Continue West for 1 mile, turning Left to Hamswell at the top of Tog Hill.
